2019 Audi A7, Q3 earn IIHS safety awards

The Q3 qualifies for Top Safety Pick Plus thanks to good headlights.

Audi's 2019 lineup has received two more safety awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, earning a Top Safety Pick for the A7 and a Top Safety Pick Plus honors for the Q3.

Both models aced all six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations and the front-crash prevention assessment, avoiding impacts at 12 mph and 25 mph.
The A7 missed out on the TSP+ award due to headlight performance, with an 'acceptable' rating for the best-rated LED projectors that come with the Premium Plus trim.
"The A7's base headlights -- LED reflectors -- rate marginal, while the LED projectors that come on the A7's highest trim, the Prestige trim, rate poor due to excessive glare," the IIHS report notes.
The Q3's available LED projectors received a 'good' rating, elevating the crossover to TSP+ status. The base LED reflectors were deemed 'poor,' however.
