Audi prices 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid

The Sportback e-tron will be the only version of the A3 hatchback sold on our shores.

Audi has announced that the 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid will start at $37,900 before a $925 destination charge and an available $4,168 federal tax credit are factored in.

The base Premium trim comes standard with Xenon headlights, LED tail lamps, LED interior lighting, dual-zone A/C, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry and start, parking sensors on both ends and a rear-view camera. It also boasts a model-specific front end with a redesigned grille.

Stepping up to the Premium Plus trim costs $42,000, while the range-topping Prestige model carries a base price of $46,800. Audi has not revealed what additional features the two aforementioned trims bring, though the Volkswagen-owned car maker points out that the list of options includes bigger wheels, aluminum roof rails, full LED headlights, and a 705-watt sound system with 14 speakers.

All A3 e-trons regardless of trim level are powered by a 204-horsepower gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain made up of a turbocharged 1.4-liter TFSI engine, a six-speed automatic transmission that spins the front wheels and an electric motor. Fuel economy figures will be published closer to the e-tron's launch date.

The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron is scheduled to go on sale in select Audi dealers this October. It will be the only version of the A3 hatchback sold on our shores, though Audi promises more e-tron-badged models will be introduced in the coming years.
