Audi details 2018 A5 rangeby Drew Johnson
The 2018 A5 will be available with a manual gearbox.
Audi has released U.S. specs for its all-new A5 and S5 sport coupes. The 2018 Audi A4 family will be on display this week at the Los Angeles auto show.
Bucking an ongoing trend in the market, Audi will offer its A5 with an honest-to-goodness six-speed manual transmission. That row-it-yourself gearbox will be hooked to a 2.0 TFSI engine — developing 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque — and Audi's signature quattro all-wheel drive. Audi says the manual-equipped A5 will accelerate from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds.
The vast majority of A5 models, however, will be fitted with an optional seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission. Like the manual car, the auto's four-cylinder will be good for 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It will also ship standard with quattro AWD. Thanks to its faster-shifting transmission, the A5 auto can sprint from 0-60 in a slightly quicker 5.6 seconds.
The high-performance S5 coupe will arrive with a 3.0 TFSI engine good for 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. It will be available exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The S5 can scoot from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.
In order to bridge the gap between the two model lines, the A5 will be available with a sport suspension that lowers the coupe's ride height by 23mm. The sport suspension package also includes upgraded anti-roll bars, dampers and springs.
A5 buyers can also select a comfort adaptive damping suspension that not only lowers the car's height by 10mm, but also adds electronic dampers that allow the driver to changes the car's suspension settings on the fly.
On the tech front, both the A5 and S5 will be available with Audi's virtual cockpit, a full-color head-up display and the latest version of the MMI infotainment system. A 755 watt Bang & Olufsen sound system is also on the options sheet.
A comprehensive suite of safety and convenience systems, such as adaptive cruise controls and rear cross traffic assist, are available. Emergency automatic braking comes standard across the entire model range.
Audi will announce pricing for its 2018 A5 model range at a later date.
