Audi recalls e-tron to address battery leak, fire risk

A faulty seal can allow water to enter the battery module.

Audi has launched a recall campaign for more than 1,500 e-tron crossovers after discovering a problem with a battery seal.

The defect can allow water to enter the battery compartment and potentially cause an electrical short circuit or a "thermal event" in extreme cases.

"We are applying an abundance of caution as no such incidents have been reported globally," the company said in a statement.

The majority of the affected vehicles have not yet been delivered to customers. It is unclear if the campaign will delay further deliveries, as the repair is not expected to become available until August.
