Audi reveals RS Q8 with 592 horsepower
The SUV has lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 42 seconds.
Audi has revealed the RS Q8 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, marking the first RS-badged SUV that will be sold in the US market.
The RS Q8 is powered by a biturbo V8 with 600 PS (592 horsepower) and 590 pound-feet of torque, allowing the hefty sport 'ute to launch from zero to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds with a top track speed of 189.5 mph when equipped with optional ceramic brakes.
Audi says the new RS is the fastest production SUV to lap the Nurburgring with an official time of 7 minutes 42.2 seconds.
The high-performance variant benefits from the company's 48-volt mild hybrid technology, providing power for an electromechanical active roll stabilization (EAWS) system to minimize body roll when cornering at speed. The SUV also benefits from air suspension with 3.5 inches of height range, all-wheel steering, a quattro sport rear differential and active torque vectoring.
The RS Q8 is also outfitted with unique bodywork for a more aggressive appearance, along with standard 22-inch 10-spoke aluminum wheels and optional massive 23-inch rims.
The first units are expected to arrive in showrooms by the first quarter of 2020 with pricing starting at 127,000 euros (~$140,500 USD) in Audi's home market. The company has not yet announced prices or launch details for the US market, however.
