2020 Audi S8 gets 571 hp, 48-volt tech
The modestly styled performance sedan can hit 62 mph in 3.8 seconds.
Audi has detailed the 2020 S8, the latest addition to the fourth-generation A8 lineup.
The updated S8 pairs conservative exterior styling with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 that delivers 571 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, rocketing the sedan to 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
Audi's 48-volt mild hybrid system helps reduce fuel consumption and provides more energy for the flagship sedan's predictive active suspension system, which employs electromechanical actuators to lift or push down each wheel separately. A front camera allows the technology to work predictively by scanning the road ahead.
The Comfort+ mode leans into curves by as much as three degrees to reduce the perception of lateral acceleration. Alternatively, the performance-oriented Dynamic mode limits body roll to just 2.5 degrees during hard cornering, down from around five degrees with the standard suspension configuration. Dynamic all-wheel steering further improves cornering performance.
The long-wheelbase edition is expected to be the only S8 variant available in the US when it arrives early next year. Pricing will presumably be announced closer to launch.
