2020 Bentley Flying Spur takes shape

Expect no less than three powertrains options.

Bentley published a pair of preview images to give us an early look at the next-generation Flying Spur. The sedan will make its official debut in the coming months.

One of the images shows the Flying Spur's hood ornament. It retracts into the body when the car is parked, and it appears to light up in the dark. The second shot is a blacked-out sketch of the sedan's silhouette. Its overall design remains hidden, but British magazine Autocar learned designers put a bigger emphasis on differentiating the Flying Spur from the new Continental GT it's mechanically related to.

The engine portfolio will include a 4.0-liter V8, a 6.0-liter W12, and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain built around a 3.0-liter V6. Odds are all three powertrains will be shared with the Bentayga, which offers the same three engine options. The Flying Spur line-up will grow later in the production run with the introduction of a high-performance Speed-badged model gifted with a more dynamic chassis.

Bentley didn't reveal when it will unveil the Flying Spur. The Shanghai auto show and the New York auto show are both around the corner, so we could see it at one of these events. Alternatively, the firm could choose to present it online, or at a standalone event organized as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. We expect to learn more about the model in the next few weeks.
