Bentley previews EXP 100 GT concept

The design study is autonomous-capable, and likely electric.

Bentley announced it will unveil a futuristic concept car named EXP 100 GT on July 10, 2019, the day it turns 100 years old. The firm described the design study as "a physical embodiment of the future Bentley brand."

The EXP 100 GT promises to show a different side of Bentley, an automaker that has traditionally maintained strong ties with tradition. While details remain vague, the company promised its next concept will be powered by a zero-emissions powertrain that showcases sustainability and innovation. It will likely be electric, we've heard rumors of a battery-powered Bentley before, but nothing is official at this stage.

Bentley has long argued its cars are already autonomous; many Mulsanne buyers put their car in the hands of a chauffeur on a regular basis. While that's a valid argument, the EXP 100 GT will showcase autonomous technology that puts a computer in charge of driving when the right conditions are met.

The company released a teaser video that suggests the EXP 100 GT takes the form of a low-slung coupe with a fastback-like roof line and pronounced fenders. We'll need to wait until it makes its official debut to get a better idea of what it looks like, and to find out if there's any chance to see it inside a Bentley showroom sooner or later.
