2019 BMW 3 Series sedan earns Top Safety Pick Plus award

The 2019 model year offers optional 'good'-rated headlights.

BMW's 2019 3 Series sedan has joined the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick Plus ranks.

The 2019 model year aced every IIHS crash test scenario and earned a 'superior' rating for its standard and optional front-crash prevention systems.

Buyers can choose from three headlight options, including 'good'-rated curve-adaptive beams on the Executive package. The base LED projectors were deemed 'poor,' while the midrange curve-adaptive lights sold with the Convenience trim were rated 'marginal.'

The 2018 model year offers many of the same safety features but lacks any 'good' headlights and earned a lesser 'advanced' rating for its front-crash prevention system.

The 2019 3 Series sedan is the fifth BMW model to year a Top Safety Pick award for 2019.
