BMW Concept 4 hints at future 4 Series styling

The coupe's huge grille "embodies the aesthetic essence" of the BMW brand.

BMW has debuted the Concept 4, previewing the "new face" of the 4 Series range.

The design study features a massive kidney grille that spans the front end from top to bottom, suggesting the company is only getting started with its grille-enlarging initiative that started with the X7 and recently carried over tot he 7 Series.
"The kidney grille has always been a signature feature of BMW cars," says BMW design head Domagoj Dukec. "The BMW Concept 4 presents a confident and classy take on this iconic feature. At the same time, the BMW Concept 4 offers a look ahead to the expressive face of the 4 Series range."
BMW believes the vertically oriented grille fits 'seamlessly' into the proportions of the concept's front end. The design is said to be inspired by the 3.0 CSi, though the 1970s car had a much smaller grille than any modern BMW.
The company has not disclosed when the Concept 4 styling will make an appearance in the 4 Series production cars.
