BMW teases new M4 GT3 race car
The sketch hints at styling for the next-gen M4 street car.
BMW has released a teaser sketch for the new M4 GT3 race car, providing a glimpse at the styling direction for the next-generation M4 street car.
Consistent with the Concept 4, the M4 GT3 front end is anchored by a massive kidney grille that will almost certainly make its way to the standard production car. The company is apparently making similar changes across its lineup, as demonstrated by the latest X7 and 7 Series.
The G80 M4 and M3 will be powered by BMW's S58 engine, shared with the X3M and X4M and rumored to deliver more than 500 horsepower. The current M4 tops out at 444 horsepower when purchased with the Competition Package.
Higher output should put the upcoming M4/M3's zero-to-60 mph sprint into the mid-three-second range, presumably a bit quicker than the M2 CS that hits 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
"It is only logical that future top models in customer racing will be based on the next generation of the BMW M4," says BMW M head Markus Flasch. "We will already be setting new standards in terms of sporting performance in production, which is why it makes sense to present the new GT3 sports car on this platform as well."
The G80 M3 and M4 are expected to be revealed sometime next year with deliveries beginning in 2021.
