BMW i8 Roadster report corroborates LA debut, 400 horsepower

The open-top hybrid is expected to get a more modern interior and upgraded semi-autonomous assistance systems.

The BMW i8 Roadster is reportedly on track to debut next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Corroborating earlier rumors, BMWBlog says "with certainty" that the open-top i8 will debut in LA before going on sale in 2018, with a new Electric Copper exterior hue and a soft top that can be opened in 14 seconds and speeds of up to 37 mph.

Battery capacity is expected to increase significantly, potentially pushing the hybrid's electric range to 20-30 miles compared to just 14 or less for the coupe.

Performance is also said to be due for an upgrade, with total system output rumored to reach 400 horsepower.

The i8 Roadster will likely land in showrooms early next year with a price tag above $150,000.
