GM recalls Buick Envision to inspect tablet holder installation
Improperly installed tablet holders can prevent the head restraint posts from fully engaging in the seat back.
General Motors has issued a small-batch recall for the 2016-2017 Buick Envision, focusing on an installation issue with the Universal Tablet Holder accessory.
An improperly installed holder can prevent the head restraint posts from fully engaging in the seat back. The instruction sheet for the holder is said to be confusing, potentially misdirecting installers to leave button caps in place at the base of the seat post.
"A head restraint that is not fully engaged in the seat back could loosen and dislodge, or inadvertently move to an undesired height which may provide insufficient head and neck support, increasing an occupant's risk of injury in a crash," the company warns.
The problem was first identified in March when an employee filed a Speak up for Safety report after noticing that the head restraint on his new Buick Envision was not fully engaged and could be pulled out with ease.
The issue is estimated to affect around 768 vehicles equipped with the optional tablet holder.
