Cadillac XT4 getting Super Cruise sooner or later

The system is currently too expensive for the XT4.

The all-new 2019 Cadillac XT4 introduced a few days ago at the New York auto show will receive the brand's semi-autonomous Super Cruise system sooner or later.

Buyers won't be able to tick the Super Cruise box when the XT4 (pictured) goes on sale, a spokesperson for the brand confirmed in the Big Apple. Motor Authority learned the system remains too expensive for a small car with a sub-$40,000 price tag. To add context, Super Cruise is a $5,000 system on the CT6, and it's not available on the base model.

Cadillac expects costs to drop in the coming years. The technology will gradually seep down into the brand's smaller models, including the XT4.

"Super Cruise will eventually make it into the XT4. It's part of what we do," Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen told Motor Authority on the side-lines of the New York show.

Super Cruise-equipped test mules are already criss-crossing the nation in anticipation of a launch. De Nysschen didn't elaborate on when we'll see the system or how much it will cost when it goes on sale, though.

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 will go on sale before the end of the year. Pricing starts in the vicinity of $36,000, which makes it the brand's most affordable crossover.
