Chevrolet Silverado race truck hints at ZRX edition
The desert racer will be used for engineering development and validation.
General Motors has revealed a Silverado race truck that will compete in the Best in the Desert series.
The full-size race truck follows a successful racing campaign for the Colorado ZR2, which kicked off in 2017 and contributed to development of the ZR2 production truck.
The Silverado started as a LT Trail Boss model, powered by GM's 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 and 10-speed automatic transmission. Racing modifications have focused on long-travel suspension with prototype high-capacity Multimatic DSSV dampers, essentially a scaled-up version of the shocks used in the Colorado ZR2 production and race trucks.
GM says the Silverado desert racer will be used for engineering development and validation, suggesting the DSSV dampers and underbody upgrades may make an appearance in the upcoming ZRX edition.
The ZRX is expected to be added to the Silverado lineup within the next few years.
