GM prices 2017 Chevy Cruze hatchback

The hatch variant starts nearly $5,000 above the sedan, though it is only offered with midrange and Premium trim levels.

General Motors has announced pricing details for the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback.

The five-door Cruze will start at $22,190 (including $875 freight), representing an increase of nearly $5,000 over the sedan's $17,495 entry price. To be clear, only the sedan is available with the L and LS base trims. Comparing just midrange LT trim levels, the sedan appears to be up to $1,495 cheaper. If GM's base price for the hatch includes an automatic transmission, the gap narrows to just $195.

The hatchback is based on the redesigned 2016 Cruze sedan, featuring a revamped front fascia and a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, among other enhancements.

Buyers are treated to extra cargo space compared to the sedan, with 42 cubic feet of room in the back.

Aside from the LT trim, the Cruze Hatchback will also be offered with a more luxurious LT package or as a sportier RS edition (pictured) when it arrives in showrooms this fall.
