2020 Corvette Stingray gets $59,995 starting price

The top 3LT trim starts at $71,945.

General Motors has announced official pricing for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

The company promised to make the mid-engine C8 generation a relatively affordable entry in its performance category, starting at $59,995 (including freight) for the 1LT base trim -- sliding in just $5 under the sub-$60,000 commitment.

"Most people thought when we moved the Corvette to mid-engine it would no longer be attainable, but we knew we couldn't mess with a winning formula and the 2020 Stingray proves it," says Chevy US vice president Brian Sweeney.

The thoroughly redesigned Corvette is powered by a mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8 with 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and dry-sump oil system come standard, along with eight-way power leather seats and Michelin Pilot Sport ALS run-flat tires.

Starting at $67,295, the 2LT adds a full color head-up display, upgraded seats, a Bose 14-speaker sound system, additional safety technology and many other extra features. The top 3LT trim fetches $71,945, focusing mostly on more leather throughout the interior and carbon-fiber trim.

The 2020 Corvette Stingray will begin rolling off the assembly line at GM's Bowling Green factory later this year.
