Hennessey shows six-wheeled 2019 Silveradoby Ronan Glon
Six-wheeled trucks are becoming increasingly common; here's the latest.
You're in luck if you think the world needs another six-wheeled pickup truck. Texas-based tuner and builder Hennessey has added a third axle to the brand-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado to create the Goliath 6x6, and it announced plans to let it loose on public roads around the globe.
Hennessey started with a Silverado Trail Boss Z71. It notes going from four wheels to six is easier said than done. Getting it right required redesigning the rear suspension system, adding an eight-inch lift, and making a cargo bed with bigger wheel arches to cover the extra axle. 20-inch wheels wrapped by 37-inch tires increase the truck's off-road chops.
The Goliath 6x6 takes about 4.5 seconds to reach 60 mph from a stop thanks to a supercharged version of the Silverado's stock 6.2-liter V8. Forced induction bumps the eight's output to 705 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 675 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm. An automatic transmission transfers power to the six wheels.
Hennessey will cap Goliath 6x6 production at 24 examples worldwide. Each one starts at $375,000, including the price of the donor truck, and buyers can place an order at participating Chevrolet dealers. Those with a little bit of extra cash to spend can order extras like an 808-horsepower engine upgrade, Brembo brakes, and a custom interior.
