GM reveals redesigned 2020 Chevy Silverado HDby Justin King
Like the new Silverado 1500, the Heavy Duty pickup adds more legroom on crew-cab models and a taller seating position.
General Motors has revealed the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, carrying forward many of the upgrades introduced with the all-new Silverado 1500.
The redesigned Heavy Duty pickup features up to three inches of additional legroom for rear-seat passengers in the crew-cab configuration, with a taller seating position for front seat occupants.
The truck's exterior is said to be inspired by heavy machinery and aims to be visually distinct from the Silverado 1500. GM says only the roof is shared between both trucks; every other piece of bodywork is exclusive to the Silverado HD.
Buyers can choose from two powertrains, either an all-new gasoline engine with direct injection and a six-speed transmission or a Duramax turbodiesel V8 with 910 pound-feet of torque delivered via a new 10-speed Allison gearbox.
GM says the new Silverado HD benefits from a more user-friendly trailering system, along with significant increases in towing and payload capabilities.
The 2020 Silverado HD will be formally unveiled in February before going on sale by mid-2019. More details will be released closer to launch.
