Chicago LIVE: 2020 Silverado HDby Justin King
The new Heavy Duty pickup is the third all-new Silverado to arrive in just 18 months.
General Motors has revealed another all-new pickup, the 2020 Silverado HD, ahead of the Chicago Auto Show.
The redesigned heavy-duty pickup is longer, wider and taller than its predecessor, with a wheelbase that has stretched by 5.2 inches on Crew Cab models. It will be available in 22 different bed, chassis and driveline configurations.
The standard engine is a new 6.6-liter V8 gasoline mill with 401 horsepower (up 11 percent) and 464 pound-feet of torque (up 22 percent), bumping its towing capacity by 18 percent.
Buyers can also opt for a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 with 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 10-speed Allison transmission. Maximum towing capacity jumps by an impressive 52 percent to 35,500 pounds for the regular cab, two-wheel drive, dually configuration.
Tech upgrades include an Autotrac active two-speed transfer case that automatically controls the '4 Auto' mode, an advanced trailering system with 15 available camera views, HD-exclusive exterior design, a more integrated snow-plow prep package, BedStep feature with larger corner steps, and a larger cab with more spacious interiors.
The all-new Silverado HD goes on sale this summer.
