GM hikes Chevy Traverse price for 2018 redesign

The revamped Traverse features a longer wheelbase, expanding passenger space and cargo room.

General Motors has announced pricing details for the redesigned Chevrolet Traverse ahead of its arrival in showrooms throughout the US.

The 2018 edition starts at $30,875 (including freight) for the basic package, pushing the nameplate into the $30K segment for the first time.

The second generation has been stretched to accommodate a longer wheelbase, expanding passenger space and cargo room. It also carries a boxier styling to better mesh with the rest of Chevy's latest full-size SUVs.

Buyers will be presented with a blacked-out RS package with a dark chrome grille, black bowtie and unique 20-inch wheels. For a more plush experience, the High Country edition boasts upgraded leather seating, polished wheels and other premium features.

Engineers revised the Traverse's 3.6-liter V6 to deliver 305 horsepower, while a new Ecotec 2.0-liter turbocharged four promises more torque despite a lower horsepower rating than the six.

GM is presumably hoping the redesign will further boot sales in the popular segment as buyers continue to flock to three-row SUVs.
