Dodge Durango Pursuit gets better brakes for police duty

The all-wheel-drive package is powered by FCA\'s 5.7-liter HEMI V8.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has revealed the Dodge Durango Pursuit, upgrading the police-focused SUV to handle higher speeds.

The Durango Special Service has already been added to many police fleets around the country, but its standard 3.6-liter V6 and rear-wheel drive are apparently not considered worthy of the dubious 'pursuit' rating.

The Durango Pursuit comes standard with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8, delivering 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque via all-wheel drive.

Officers involved in high-speed pursuits with the 5,000-pound SUV will appreciate its heavier-duty brake system, claimed to be capable of grinding to a halt from 60 mph in 134 feet.

"The Dodge Durango is already known as the Charger of SUVs, so it is only natural that the new Durango Pursuit complements the Charger Pursuit in police fleets across the country," says FCA's head of passenger car brands, Steve Beahm.
