Gordon Ramsay confirms LaFerrari Spider on Top Gear
The LaFerrari Spider is coming, and Gordon Ramsay already owns one.
Ferrari's upcoming convertible LaFerrari supercar has been confirmed via an unlikely source — the BBC's Top Gear.
Although we've had some pretty substantial reports of the LaFerrari convertible before, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay confirmed during Top Gear's "Star in a Rallycross Car” segment that the Italian automaker is indeed moving forward with a LeFerrari Spider. And just how did Ramsay come across this insider news? He's already plunked down the money to buy a LaFerrari Spider.
According to Ramsay, Ferrari is planning to produce just 150 examples of the LaFerrari Spider. In comparison, output for the LaFerrari hardtop (pictured) is pegged at 499 units.
No other details were given, but the LaFerrari Spider is expected to use the same gas-electric drivetrain as the standard car, which is good for 949 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque. Top speed of the LaFerrari hardtop is quoted at 217mph, but it's possible that figure could dip a bit for the LaFerrari Spider.
Although Ramsay's segment was present as a natural conversation with Top Gear host Chris Evans, it's likely that the announcement was a plant by Ferrari. The Italian automaker is notorious for protecting its secrets by any means necessary, so it's highly unlikely that the company would allow Ramsay to spill the beans about the LaFerrari Spider on a global car show and then keep his order. Neither Ferrari nor Top Gear has commented on the matter.
