2019 Fiat 500X gets new engine, Urbana Edition

Fiat has also killed off the 500X's manual transmission.

The 500X is one of the few small crossovers that isn't flying out of showrooms, but Fiat is hoping to give its stylish utility vehicle a boost with a new engine for the 2019 model year.

It's a little late in the year to be announcing changes for the 2019 model year, but that's exactly what Fiat did on Tuesday. Fiat says all 2019 500X model will be powered by a 1.3L turbocharged engine, replacing the 1.4L and 2.4L engine available in last year's model.

Despite the downsizing, horsepower remains about the same while torque has increased. Fiat says the 1.3L is good for 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. The only transmission available for the 2019 model year is a nine-speed automatic.

Fiat is kicking off the 2019 model year with a revised Urbana Edition package for the 500X. The Urbana Edition is based on the 500X Trekking model and includes black exterior accents, 18-inch black wheels and LED headlights. The package adds $895 on top of the 500X Trekking's $24,995 base price.

The 2019 Fiat 500X, including the Urbana Edition, is available at dealers now.
