Ford claims new Police Interceptor Utility quickest cop car in America
The SUV beat all other contenders in acceleration tests while posting the fastest lap time.
Ford's all-new Police Interceptor Utility has fresh bragging rights after completing the latest Michigan State Police trials, going up against other SUVs and sedans.
The SUV was the quickest accelerating vehicle to 60 mph and 100 mph. It also posted the fastest lap and best average lap time.
"In addition to turning in the fastest times, the EcoBoost Police Interceptor Utility clocked in with the highest top speed - 150 mph in Michigan State Police evaluations, marking the first time an SUV was the overall quickest and fastest police vehicle," Ford says.
The hybrid variant was also a strong performer, beating all rival SUVs, including V8-powered models, to 100 mph and posting the fastest lap and best average lap time. Ford says the electrified model bests today's 3.7-liter V6 model with all-wheel drive.
The Police Interceptor Utility is said to be the clear winner in terms of sales, representing 52 percent of all sales to law enforcement in 2017.
