Ford confirms Explorer ST
Along with the Edge ST, the sporty Explorer could help bring Ford\'s SUV sales back into the black after the company had a rough start to 2018.
Ford has quietly confirmed rumors surrounding an ST-badged Explorer.
A broad announcement detailing the company's product roadmap and strategy included a note that an Explorer ST "will soon follow" the recently unveiled Edge ST.
"These two new SUVs will help Ford Performance deliver on its promise of 12 new models by 2020, and will help extend the [Ford Performance] division's growth, which has risen 81 percent in the last four years," the company said.
The Explorer ST is expected to get a unique body kit with black and red accents. Rumors suggest it will borrow the Lincoln Continental and MKZ's 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine with over 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
The Blue Oval is presumably hurrying to get the high-riding ST models into showrooms to help reverse its SUV sales decline entering 2018.
