New Ford F-150 diesel gets 30-mpg highway ratingby Justin King
Ford says the 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel mill fetches the highest fuel efficiency of any full-size pickup.
Ford has announced class-leading fuel efficiency for its 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine in the 2018 F-150.
The configuration has achieved an EPA-estimated 30-mpg highway rating, 22-mpg city, and 25-mpg combined, topping the charts for full-size pickups.
"Even a few years ago, customers wouldn't have imagined an EPA-estimated rating of 30 mpg highway would be possible in a full-size pickup, but our team of crazy- smart engineers rose to the challenge," says Ford development executive Hau Thai-Tang.
For comparison, the Ram 1500's 3.0-liter diesel engine is rated at 27-mpg highway, 20-mpg city and 23-mpg combined.
The F-150's oil burner delivers 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque, good for a tow rating of 11,400 pounds.
The first examples will begin shipping to dealers in May.
