Spied: 2019 Ford Focusby Drew Johnson
An all-new Ford Focus is just around the corner.
A prototype for Ford's next-generation Focus compact has been spotted testing in southern Europe. Due out for the 2019 model year, the next Focus will boast a bigger footprint and an improved interior.
The current Focus has been around for seven years, which means it's due for a clean-sheet redesign. That will happen for the 2019 model year, with this prototype giving us our best indication yet of what to expect from the new model.
The 2019 Focus is expected to switch to a new platform that is longer, lower and wider than the one that underpins today's car. That should result in a better driving position with increased room for all passengers.
Passengers will also benefit from an all-new interior design. Although still not cutting edge, the 2019 Focus will sport a more modern-looking dashboard with Ford finally ditching the button-laden layout seen in the current Focus. The center screen seen in this prototype reminds us of an old school CRT television, but Ford certainly has enough time to change that design element before regular production.
Under hood expect a range of EcoBoost engines. The base model will likely ship with a 1.0L three-cylinder while upper-end models will receive boosted four-cylinders. We fully expect to see both ST and RS performance models of the next Focus, but it'll be a few years before we see those on dealer lots.
Ford will likely debut the 2019 Focus sometime in early 2018.
