Ford Bronco to get aluminum body?
Stamping will be done at the same plant that makes aluminum panels for the F-150 and Expedition.
Rumors of an aluminum body for the upcoming Ford Bronco may have been corroborated by an official document.
The off-road SUV's body panels will be formed at the company's Dearborn Stamping facility, according to a union contract document spotted by forum members at Bronco6G.
Notably, the same plant also makes stampings for the aluminum-bodied F-150 and Expedition/Navigator. The Bronco will require new tooling, so it is still possible that it will have a steel body, however the particular factory makes aluminum the most likely choice.
A lightweight body could help the Bronco compete against the Jeep Wrangler, which uses aluminum for its removable doors, hood and other components.
