Report: Ford preparing two midsize crossover EVs

The new models will be sold under the Ford and Lincoln brands for the 2023 model year.

Ford is reportedly developing a pair of new all-electric midsize crossovers.

Referred to by the code-names CDX746 and CDX747, the vehicles will be sold under the Ford and Lincoln brands when they arrive in late 2022 or early 2023, according to Automotive News.

The EVs are expected to be sized similarly to the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus (pictured).

The report claims the company initially planned to build the new models in Mexico but later decided to choose its Flat Rock plant, helping retain jobs at the Michigan factory after it stops building the poor-selling Lincoln Continental.

The midsize battery-powered crossovers are among 16 EVs to be sold under Ford's brands by 2022, joining a Mustang-styled crossover and another SUV under development with Rivian. The company has also started a teaser campaign for an all-electric F-Series pickup.
