Ford names electric crossover Mustang Mach-E
The company will begin taking $500 refundable deposits following Sunday debut.
Ford has announced that its forthcoming all-electric crossover will be named the Mustang Mach-E.
The decision to repurpose the iconic pony-car nameplate for a battery-powered four-door SUV will certainly stir up a bit of controversy, as the new model will share only styling cues with the muscle car.
The company has released a video titled "What is Mach" to help explain why the EV will be joining the Mustang family.
The Mustang Mach-E will make its official debut on Sunday at a Los Angeles event that will be streamed live on YouTube. Immediately following the broadcast, which ends at 9:30 pm EST, Ford will begin taking $500 refundable deposits for the first production units.
"Timing will be critical, especially for a limited First Edition, details of which will be announced as part of the Nov 17 event," the automaker says.
