Ford highlights Mustang Shelby GT500's 'supercar' acceleration, braking

The new GT500 is the most powerful street-legal Ford ever.

Ford has highlighted the new Mustang Shelby GT500's acceleration and braking performance, describing the experience as on par with exotic supercars.

With 760 horsepower and the biggest front brakes of any domestic sports coupe, Ford's most powerful street-legal vehicle ever can launch from zero to 100 mph and get back to a standstill in just 10.6 seconds.

The 5.2-liter supercharged V8 is said to be the most power- and torque-dense in the world, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that upshifts in as little as 80 milliseconds.

"The range of brute-force drag acceleration, seamless road shifts and amazingly smooth shifts on the track further highlights how the soul of the Shelby GT500 is elevated in our most advanced Mustang ever," said Gt500 chief engineer Ed Krenz.
