Ford to unveil FF1 track car at Goodwood this summer

The 1.0-liter EcoBoost-powered FF1 is faster round the ‘Ring than a Ferrari Enzo.

This summer will mark the 20th anniversary of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. And for the historic event, Ford has a few vehicles up its sleeve - most notably, the FF1 track car.

The FF1 is a one-seater open top track car powered by Ford's new three-cylinder 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine. The Formula Ford-inspired production version will pump out 123 horsepower.

Ford has a highly tuned 202 horsepower version, however, that holds the Nurburgring record as the fastest three-cylinder car. The FF1 rounded the ‘Ring in 7:22, outpacing the Lamborghini Aventador and the Ferrari Enzo, achieving the 11th fastest lap in the Nurburgring's record books.

The European road-legal track car will hit a top speed of almost 160 miles-per-hour and achieve 100 miles-per-gallon - but not at the same time.

Americans interested in this track day racer shouldn't get their hopes up, though, as the FF1 doesn't include airbags and therefore wouldn't be allowed on the public motorways here in the States.

Alongside the FF1, which will take on the Goodwood hillclimb, Ford will be showcasing the Fiesta ST and the GT40.
