Ford teases 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 for Detroit debut
Rumors suggest the new GT500 may get 720 horsepower.
Ford has released a teaser image for the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, due to make its first official appearance a the Detroit auto show in January.
The photo shows the new GT500's massive supercharger cover. Rumors suggest the 5.2-liter V8 has been tuned to deliver 720 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, though some claim output will be above 770 ponies.
A recent leak appears to have slipped the exterior styling ahead of schedule. The Mustang in the leak boasts a unique front end with massive air intakes and a cobra emblem on the grille. A large rear wing has been fitted to the trunk and the wheels may be produced from lightweight carbon fiber.
Other conflicting rumors raise the possibility of a 10-speed automatic transmission, a dual-clutch unit or a six-speed manual. In any case, the track-focused car will likely get a carbon driveshaft.
Full details will be revealed on January 14 at the show.
