GMC Sierra crashes through Sarasota airport terminal [Video]
Luckily there was nobody in the baggage claim area when the truck blasted through the cinder-block wall.
Surveillance video from the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport captured a crazy accident as a GMC Sierra pickup smashed through a wall and slammed into a rental-car desk.
No workers or travelers were injured as the truck sent pieces of cinderblock flying in all directions as it destroyed the wall and launched past a luggage carousel. Video posted by Fox13 shows a National Car Rental employee casually sipping a beverage and quickly ducking below the edge of the desk as debris flew overhead followed by the truck, which finally came to a stop as it struck a solid knee wall.
Airport chief Fredrick Piccolo told the local news outlet that the truck was driving on Highway 41 when it left the road, crashed through a perimeter fence, drove past parked aircraft on the air carrier ramp and finally hit the building still traveling at a "very high rate of speed." Luckily, the accident occurred just before 3 am.
The truck's driver was the only person injured and was sent to a nearby hospital in serious condition, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident is said to be under investigation.
