GMC Sierra gets trailering enhancements for 2016
New options include a fifth-wheel prep package and an Echomaster trailer camera system.
The GMC Sierra lineup is set to receive a few of General Motors' latest trailer enhancements for the 2016 model year.
The Sierra HD can now be purchased with a gooseneck/fifth-wheel prep package directly from the factory. The $350 option features a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray, concealed beneath the truck's bed floor when the hitch isn't need. Caps for the floor openings and a seven-way trailer wiring connection are included in the package.
Buyers can add a gooseneck completion kit, with a 2-5/16-inch ball hitch and chain tie-downs, while a fifth-wheel hitch is available with a 20,000-pound rating for $939 (excluding installation labor) or a 25,000-pound limit for $999.
Certain 2014-2016 Sierra 1500 and HD pickups can be outfitted with a new blind-spot-assist camera package, adding two side-view cameras and another on the rear of the trailer. The additional side views help drivers check their blind spots while on the highway, while the rear camera activates when in reverse.
The trailer camera system is available for $999 (excluding installation labor).
