Honda to unveil next Civic Si in LA
The next Civic Si could get 220 horsepower.
Honda has announced plans to introduce the next Civic Si during the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Si will be positioned between the standard Civic and the range-topping Type R model that's expected to arrive next year. While technical details are still under wraps, Motor1 believes the Si will receive a hotter, 220-horsepower version of the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that powers the standard Civic and the all-new CR-V. In comparison, the last-generation model had 204 horsepower on tap.
Transmission options will likely include both a six-speed manual transmission and an automatic. What remains to be seen is which body style the Si will be offered as. This is pure speculation, but we wouldn't be surprised if the model is only available as a coupe and as a hatchback.
Stay tuned, we'll find out more about the next-generation Honda Civic Si in the coming weeks, and Leftlane will be on location in the City of Angels to bring you live images of the new member of the Civic family as soon as it breaks cover. The Civic Si will compete in the same segment as the Volkswagen GTI when it goes on sale early next year as a 2017 model.
