Honda unveils Civic Type R TC race car
The fully built race Civic fetches $89,900.
Honda's Performance Development division has introduced the Civic Type R TC, a purpose-built race car designed to compete in the SRO TC Americas Touring Car series.
The TC edition retains the stock Type R's exterior sheet metal but adds a high-flow front grille, J's Racing FRP vented hood, CSF-designed radiator and oil cooler, HPD/Borla downpipe and turbo-back exhaust, a six-speed manual gearbox with strengthened third and fourth gears, HPD/Cusco limited-slip differential, two-piece front brake rotors, FIA-compliant fuel cell, racing cage and racing seat with a six-point harness.
The 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine has been tuned to deliver between 270 and 330 horsepower, depending on the specific series application. The figures compare to 306 horsepower for the stock Type R street car.
The Type R TC will be sold to registered North American racing customers with racing licenses through HPD's Honda Racing Line program for competition in SRO TC Americas races or certain SCCA and NASA classes. Pricing is set at $89,900, more than double the street-legal Type R's $36,300 base price.
