Hyundai Santa Cruz prototype appears in parking garage
The heavily camouflaged truck hints at its production form.
A Hyundai Santa Cruz prototype has been spotted in the wild, appearing in a parking garage and wrapped in heavy camouflage cladding.
Posted by Korean Car Blog, the photo seems to confirm that the truck will have unibody construction with a buttress between the cab and bed. The form is consistent with the bold Santa Cruz concept (pictured).
The automaker has promised the pickup will have a distinctive styling aimed at millennial buyers that are new to the truck market, emulating the driving and cabin experience of a crossover but with the added utility of an open bed. The pitch suggests the company is not attempting to compete directly with the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado and other established rivals, instead attempting to create a new niche.
The Santa Cruz is slated to enter production in Alabama sometime in 2021.
