Infiniti nearing final decision on Q60 Project Black S production car

The company has collaborated with the Renault F1 team to refine the latest prototype.

Infiniti has promised to finally make a final production decision on the Q60 Project Black S later this year.

The company has collaborated with the Renault F1 team to refine the latest prototype, focusing on track performance under the direction of star driver Nico Hülkenberg.

Aimed at the BMW M4, the Project Black S essentially serves as a hybrid adaptation of the Q60 Red Sport 400. An electric motor helps drive the rear wheels, while another helps spool up the turbocharger. A 4.4-kWh battery helps deliver a combined system output of 563 horsepower.

"Now we have two completed prototypes we will fully evaluate the production potential of Project Black S," said Infiniti's marketing and sales VP, Mike Colleran. "It is still too early to predict the outcome as we need a solid business case, but the latest rounds of testing have proved its unique performance and underlines our pursuit of electrified performance."
