Infiniti teases QX55 crossover
The new crossover will have a more coupe-like profile than the current QX55.
Infiniti has released another teaser image for its upcoming QX55 crossover, due to be unveiled next year.
The latest rendering provides a better look at the new model's coupe-like profile, serving as a modern take on the original FX series that debuted in 2003 to compete with the then-new Porsche Cayenne and other performance crossovers.
It is unclear if the QX55 will carry over the QX50's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The lineup will eventually need a more robust powertrain to directly compete with the BMW M4 M40i (382 hp) and Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe (362/503 hp).
Among the performance crossovers of the early aughts, the FX tested the waters with a design that was slightly closer to a car. Infiniti later shifted away from the rounded design, however the company appears to have taken renewed interest in the crossover coupe segment as rival luxury marques fill the space with new models.
