Jaguar employs V2I tech to avoid getting stuck at red lights

The system shows an optimum speed to drive to hit all green lights.

Jaguar Land Rover is working on a new application of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology, helping drivers avoid getting stuck at red lights.

Known as Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory (GLOSA), the technology receives signals from traffic lights and automatically calculates the optimum vehicle speed to catch all green lights.

"The goal is for the V2X revolution to create free-flowing cities with fewer delays and less commuter stress," the company says.

In reality, V2X is unlikely to become a 'revolution' unless governments expand investment in infrastructure upgrades to support such features. In JLR's home market, the UK government has spent £20 million (~$26 million USD) to help pursue self-driving and connected-car technology.

GLOSA is currently being trailed on a Jaguar F-Pace. The company has not confirmed production plans for the tech, however.
