New Jeep Wrangler attracts pony cars for trade-in
The Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro and even FCA's own Dodge Challenger are frequently ditched for the SUV.
The new Jeep Wrangler is apparently prompting many buyers to ditch their pony cars to buy the rugged SUV.
The previous-generation JK Wrangler obviously represents the most common trade-in, but Jeep North America director Scott Tallon suggests the company has been surprised by the number of muscle cars and pony cars that are being swapped at dealerships.
"The pony cars ... a lot of them got traded in," he told Muscle Cars and Trucks. "Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and even our Dodge Challenger."
Unsurprisingly, Jeep Gladiator buyers tend to be switching from mid- and full-size pickups such as the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado.
The Wrangler has appeared to strengthen its unique status as a popular lifestyle model in recent years, coinciding with sliding sales in the pony-car segment.
