Kia previews 2020 Seltos crossover
Kia announced the compact crossover it will sell globally in the coming months will be called Seltos. Scheduled to make its debut on June 20, the model will be positioned at the bottom of the company's growing crossover and SUV line-up. Kia released a brief teaser video to give us an early look at the model.
The South Korean firm explained the name Seltos comes from Greek mythology. Celtos is the son of Hercules. The company replaced the c with an s to imply speed and sportiness. These terms are relative; don't expect the Seltos to set a lap record at Laguna Seca, or to out-perform a Porsche 718 Cayman on a slalom course.
The teaser video confirms the Seltos wears a tall, upright front end characterized by a wide rendition of the company's trade-marked tiger nose grille. Horizontal lines present on both ends of the crossover create a sense of width. The model was designed for tech-savvy millennials, according to Kia, so it's available with a 10.25-inch screen for the infotainment system.
The Kia Seltos will make its debut online on June 20, and it will go on sale in South Korea during the second half of 2019. Kia hasn't released additional details about the American-spec model, but we'll learn more when the crossover breaks cover. We expect it will go on sale in time for the 2020 model year.
