2020 Kia K5 previews 2021 Optima redesign for US market
The North American edition will likely carry over the same design changes.
Kia has revealed the 2020 K5 for customers in Korea, providing a look at what to expect for the 2021 Optima in the US.
The latest K5 has been stretched by nearly two inches, widened by around one inch, and stands around 0.8 inches lower than the outgoing edition. The wheelbase has also been extended by approximately 1.8 inches.
A more sculpted body shape is paired with a new headlight design and full-width LED array in the rear. Press photos show a mostly blacked-out configuration with two-tone 19-inch wheels and dark grilles.
The new proportions and fastback profile mesh with a wider trend in the sedan segment as automakers attempt to make their cars more visually appealing, with more interior space to narrow the gap with crossovers.
Kia has not yet revealed the new K5's interior, providing only teaser sketches that point to a more modern and upscale look. The car is slated to ship in Korea next month.
