Kia Seltos makes its US debut for 2021 model year
The crossover will slot below the Sportage with a sub-$22,000 price tag.
Kia's entry-level Seltos crossover has made its first appearance in the US at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Following a debut for global markets earlier this year, the company has confirmed plans to launch the Seltos in America for the 2021 model year. The new addition will slot between the Soul and Sportage in terms of size and price.
Buyers will be able to choose from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit that delivers 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive will be an available option, with torque vectoring and a lock mode to handle more extreme conditions.
Despite its relatively small size, the Seltos features a relatively long wheelbase and hood for a perceived look of a larger SUV. Designers have also attempted to give the model an aggressive appearance and a few tangible off-road features including front and rear skid plates and 7.2 inches of ground clearance, slightly taller than the Sportage.
Inside, the Seltos features a 3.5-inch or 7.0-inch OLED gauge cluster for lower trim levels and an available 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. The options list also includes a Kia-first Bose stereo system and advanced driver assistance system.
The crossover will be priced at "below $22,000" for the based model with all-wheel drive or the S trim with front-wheel drive.
