Range Rover Sport SVR laps the 'Ring in 8:14 [Video]

Following several teasers, Jaguar Land Rover has finally disclosed its new Range Rover Sport SVR's best lap time at the Nurburgring.

The SUV lapped the famed Nordschleife circuit in just eight minutes and 14 seconds, allegedly setting a track record for the fastest production SUV. The achievement also ranks better than many sports cars.

"We wanted to see whether an SUV could behave like a performance car in this challenging environment," said Jaguar Land Rover's chief engineer of vehicle integrity, Mike Cross. "The results are spectacular and the Range Rover Sport SVR has demonstrated outstanding on-road performance capabilities."

Developed by the company's Special Vehicle Operations division, the Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 powerplant that delivers 550 horsepower to all four wheels.

Despite the impressive Nurburgring time, engineers are said to have been barred from making any compromises to all-terrain capabilities or comfort. It is scheduled to go on sale sometime next year.
