Geneva LIVE: Land Rover's Range Rover SV Coupe
Land Rover introduces the first full-sized luxury SUV coupe.
Land Rover has taken the coupe/crossover concept to an entirely new level with the unveiling of the new Range Rover SV Coupe, a new model the company says will be a "dramatic and desirable addition to the Range Rover model portfolio."
The interior features luxury seating for four, while the exterior sports a "dramatic two-door silhouette," according to the company. The unique 2+2 floor plan appears to be a unique in providing plenty of elbow room for all passengers, with a full-length center console that splits both front and rear seats.
We're not sure if we'd call it "dramatic," but the SV Coupe's silhouette is certainly unmistakable. Without a good look at the side, you wouldn't even notice that it's a two-door. That's not just a styling trick, either. This is no Evoque spin-off; it's a full-sized Range Rover.
Consistent with previous SV-badged variants, the SV Coupe's interior is replete with premium materials, including diamond-quilted leather and zebrawood. Jaguar Land Rover designers appear to have been given more freedom to bridge the divide between Jaguar's traditional car lineup and Land Rover's history of rugged SUVs. The SV Coupe's official gallery features a model with a contrasting color theme with white upholstery up front and dark blue in the back.
Underneath, it's all Range Rover. It's powered by the company's supercharged 5.0L V8, which produces 557 horsepower and 516lb-ft of torque. Land Rover claims it'll do 0-60 in just five seconds and it will run up to a top speed of 165 miles per hour--no joke for such a large vehicle. Land Rover was quick to point out that those estimates would make the SV Coupe the fastest full-sized Range Rover ever built.
The Range Rover SV Coupe will be limited to a run of just 999 units worldwide, each hand-assembled by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations in Warwickshire, UK. However, if the Coupe sells as fast as it drives, we expect it won't be the last full-size Range Rover to get a two-door treatment.
