NY LIVE: 2019 Lincoln Aviator
The revived Aviator will be Lincoln\'s first plug-in hybrid paired with a twin-turbo engine.
Lincoln has revealed the Lincoln Aviator in close-to-production form at the New York International Auto Show.
Reviving the Aviator nameplate after more than a decade in retirement, the modern SUV will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that pairs an electric drive system and a twin-turbo gasoline engine.
Ford's 2.7- or 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines are likely candidates for the plug-in package, though the company has not yet provided detailed specifications. The latter mill already delivers 450 horsepower in the Navigator -- without assistance from an electric motor.
Lincoln hopes the Aviator's distinctive appearance will stand out from rivals in the medium luxury SUV segment, which is said to represent a quarter of all premium SUV sales. It will be available with the company's latest and greatest technology, including Co-Pilot360 and truly keyless operation via smartphone and a pillar-mounted keypad.
Pricing and full details are being kept quiet until closer to the Aviator's 2019 market arrival.
