Maserati Alfieri to (finally) debut next year by Drew Johnson
The Alfieri has been a long time in the making.
Maserati's chief operating officer says the company's Alfieri sports will finally make its production debut at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. Maserati first showed the Alfieri in concept form in 2014.
Maserati originally promised the Alfieri would debut in 2016, but the automaker clearly missed that target. However, Harald Wester, COO of Maserati, told Autocar the Alfieri will finally be finished in time for next year's Geneva show.
But potential buyers will have to wait even longer to take delivery of the Alfieri. Maserati won't actually start production of the Alfieri until 2021 or 2022.
Maserati will use that extra time to tinker with the Alfieri's powertrain offerings. The automaker is planning three different electrified powertrains for the stylish two-door -- a pure-electric setup with all-wheel drive, a plug-in hybrid and a mild hybrid. No performance figures have been announced.
Although Wester is adamant the Alfieri will debut next year, we should take that assertion with a grain of salt given the car's previous missed milestones.
